Welcome to my renewed site!

As some of you may have found out from my Facebook-page or elsewhere, I’ve recorded a Christmas album called Ave Maria – Joulun klassikot (Christmas classics). The idea came from Warner Music and even though I was a bit suspicious of the idea at first, I came to like it very much because of the classy production there was going to be. The idea was to do a christmas album that would sound majestic and grand, but yet still delicate and dynamic. It was clear that there would be no sample-based orchestrations, but a real symphony orchestra playing most of the songs.  Even though sampled sound and midi programming can do pretty convincing results, the real thing just sounds like a…REAL THING! We also recorded a big sounding organ at church to make the package even more tangible.

The album was recorded in several locations, but my parts were done at Neomusic Studio in Helsinki with Janne Huttunen sitting behind the desk. Miikka Huttunen handled the mixing and Svante Försback did the mastering. The track list is as follows:

1. Ave Maria 4:35 (The one and only!)
2. Sylvian joululaulu 4:03 (The song you might have heard me singing before on last Christmas, but this time the arrangement is fully made for my voice.)
3. En etsi valtaa loistoa 3:18 (A Christmas carol from Jean Sibelius with a very pious mood.)
4. Mielenrauhaa 3:57 (A new song from Kassu Halonen – the man behind Sydämeeni Joulun Teen.)
5. Varpunen jouluaamuna 3:27 (A song written on a touching poem by Zacharias Topelius – we Finns love this one and I think this version worked out great.)
6. Sydämeeni joulun teen 3:46 (Maybe the last Finnish Xmas carol that has reached a classic status among the classics – and we spiced it up just a little bit.)
7. Nessun Dorma 3:14 (This is not a Christmas carol, but it surely fits here very well – I like this one one of the best tracks here.)
8. Tonttu 4:51 (A nice story of a Xmas elf and a cool arrangement with a rich athmosphere.)
9. Jouluyö, juhlayö 3:44 (One of the most known Christmas carols with a nice vibe in it.)
10. Adagio 3:03 (This one isn’t a Xmas carol either, but it ends this album with a grand tone and a BIG organ sound!)

Raskasta Joulua will hit the road again in November. It’s getting bigger year by year and we’ll be playing in Tampere-talo this time, for example. For more venues, please visit Dragonwhite.com.

  6. I got to see you not 1, but 4 times this year! First in Kotka in the acoustic duo with Antti Mäkelä, then in Tavastia with Teräsbetoni, a while ago in a never-forget Queen-concert at Turku, and last but not least, in Mikkeli, performing with 3 equally amazing singers!! I wish all the best for you in 2012!!
    Hyvää joulua ja uuttavuotta Jarkko!!

  7. Kiitos 18.11.2011 Queen-keikasta konserttitalolla! Freddy olisi ollut ylpeä! Upeaa!

  8. Your site today just got a new front page picture. Of course, your very expressive stage image. It could be said – it`s your character ;)
And in general today (oops it’s yesterday)I had surprised with you. Pretty much totally unexpected but worthwhile news feed from you! And it’s great that you have so many new projects. The Queen … yea… last summer I have been thought that you can sing a specially chosen program. Then I thought that this could be a Rainbow or something from Dio in Black Sabbath era. About Queen … yeah too, but less ambitious :) So project with the orchestra not came in my mind then. Guess your Queen project will be a very special and impressive. Hope to see something from it.
Well, now just have to wish you succeed in a way what you want to do it… and as once someone commented – yes, Freddie would be proud of this!
And now … good night, tomorrow have a new and beautiful day! :)

  9. Adding today’s sorrow message:
Someone created with photos and had placed YouTube video for Manowar song “Hymn of the Immortal Warrior” in Memory of Scott Columbus.
And this was one of the last songs have been recorded by the Scott Columbus on drums.
I found this song`s live performance at Magic Circle Festival 2007. video (Recorded on DVD)and next song in this video “The Crown And The Ring”.
Yeah… it’s so pretty topical to hear the both song words today …

  10. Thanks to you, Jii! :) It took me a while to get ‘Maailma tarvitse sankareita’, but now that I have it we’re becoming really good friends. Music is simply great, and now I’m working on translating the lyrics for myself so I can understand them (I’m not succeeding at all, but at least my Finnish warrior-related vocabulary is richer ;-). Well, keep on kickin’ some people’s as*es and see you soon!

  11. So.. lot`s of years has gone, but I`ll came back this one more time to see the power of TB and the message of their strenght. Jarkko Ahola,Teräsbetoni in all.. You`ve (all of ya)given me the strenght to go on in my heavy (in many ways) live. I`m just an ordinary middle aged man from Finland. Few years ago I sed tht Ya bring back the TRUST IN METAL to me and gave me the strenght to look up forwards. These days I`m in a middle of big problems on my life f e s money, family etc. Your music has allways been the gateaway from my problems, so honestly, from the depp of my heart, thank you Teräsbetoni.
I`m an old guy now, but I`ll never forget or dis your message (s,). Metallitotuus. Veljeys, kunnia, vapaus.
Yours; one to trust in your metal.

  15. Moi!

I can imagine how You feel now, because I feel the same. We`ll act this challenge for communication in Your home page. I hope that this mischief-maker, who deleted our thoughts and wishes for You, will be on merit.
Main thing for us that we know who we are, that we trust each other. Truly friends always support and to encourage in not so good moments too.
In spite this tiny evil-wisher, I wish You success in all next gigs – Northern Kings, Ter

  16. Thanks, Jii. I`m waiting. Hope you`ll enjoy those recording sessions.
